Container Divider

For the designer for industry half of this project, we were asked to look at how we as people measure things. It did not necessarily mean a metric of measurement, think of something like a spoonful. There was a lot of group work an collaboration included within this project and the idea was first developed by the group through group brainstorming and sketching.

The development of the container divider.

The container divider was created in order to limit the amount of hot chocolate powder you can get on your spoon, this was an issue raised due to a flatmate constantly having too large of a scoop and the powder would not dissolve in the boiling water.

The divider limits the size of the spoon going into the container, this reduces the volume of each scoop and it adds another feature as the center of the flower is small enough so that the spoon can sit in it, allowing for a spoon of a good size to be left in the pot. This subconsciously will guide the user to use a certain size spoon and further increase the likeliness of the 'perfect' cup of hot chocolate.

The creation of the basket

I made the cardboard basket as a response to the given design brief. Within this project, we were asked to make something that contains food out of corrugated cardboard. As this project also held an emphasis on fixtures, we were not allowed to use any glue.

To create my basket, I had to do research on weaving techniques as I knew this was a way you could make something incredibly sturdy without the use of glue. During the creation of this basket I also discovered origami tessellations, a type of origami that combines simple and repetitive origami shapes and joins them together to make interesting geometric structures.
